27 – MUTETU A LARA

Tra le diverse modalità con cui può essere intonato un mutetu “a tres peis” (lett. “a tre piedi”), breve componimento formato da due sezioni di tre versi ognuna, vi è quella detta a lara, che prende il nome dal ritornello “nonsense” ripetuto durante il canto.
I versi della seconda sezione, un auspicio che il proprio amante confermi il suo impegno, si intrecciano con quelli della prima, legato alla seconda per rima ma non per significato.

“A lara” is one of the possible ways of singing a mutetu “a tres peis” (lit.: three-footed), that is a short composition consisting of two sections with three lines each. In this case, the name “a lara” comes from the repeated “nonsense” refrain.
The lines of the second section – hoping that the lover will confirm his commitment – are intertwined with those of the first.
The two section are connected through the rhyme but not by their meaning.
